I am also a photographer. I was drawn to this heavy bag gadget on the holiday so I bought the SX10IS tired a year ago. What a joy to use! Regardless of the length at your fingertips! The image quality is also good to use each. Over time, I had to high-definition video for a customer. It was an obvious choice for me to buy the SX20is for it. Why learn another camera? And wow, a SX10 make it even better? Well, not quite.

I will not rehash all that Kirk Tuck and others have said before me. I say if … Place the SX10IS for 2 megapixels. If you are mainly interested in pictures, stick with the SX10. The rest of the camera is very similar. The new menus are more colorful, the controls are slightly different in the menus and everything else is almost identical. Most changes are “fluff”. If you do not need the HD video I would not go. For me, the SX10 offers a much more flexible image.

What I like the SX-series cameras :

1. Enlarge This amazing! For all zoom in such a small package. Sweet!
2. Uses AA batteries. You’ll never run out of battery. Widely available.
3. Intelligent design & shape and feel of solid quality.
4. Excellent diopter adjustment on the eyepiece (at least for me)
5. Gateway SD card is separate from all access panels. Really easy to reach,
even on a tripod.
5. Metal Stand
6. Low price for all features included.
7. Oh yeah .. The swiveling LCD screen. Very useful!
8. The fact that it is also great HD video in a single package is a bonus.

What I am not so crazy :

1. Button or right-back, a little crowded. Sometimes I hit something I do not.
2. No filter threads … Canon geez, come on ….
3. Battery indicator is not all the time
4. Wish I could “adjust” the option “Auto” function
5. PDF manual (what) for pain. I will take my own paper, I thank you.
You might as well print it immediately. You’ll need it!
6. The selection of the “spot” meter standard “center” to power down.
7. Electronic viewfinder (not just this one does not. They all let me badly.)
8. A little less sharp still images from the SX10 that I also own.

A fine file, RGB 4000 x 3000 offers a 34 MB file in Photoshop! Strangely enough, not more pixels on a better image quality. SX20is pictures are not quite the snap “in my eyes as the SX10.

Is it perfect? Heck no. Is there one? Even $ 5,000?

Maybe if Canon has changed the firmware to “Superfine” compression, could this device into a stellar performer?

Do I miss RAW mode? Not really. When you buy a digital SLR camera.
What I do miss the most during the transition from my Nikon? This super clear clear viewfinder.
If the clip shows? Of course, if you are not put right. Thus SX10IS (and my Nikon is). High dynamic range is usually not a characteristic of most consumer devices.

Professionals take note … I was on the fence as to whether the picture quality of camera is good enough to satisfy my professional needs. If you are obsessed with images Tack Sharp, pass on this one. You probably will not be happy. If “good” is good enough, go ahead.

After recording and experiment for 10 days I was not happy. The pictures are simply too darn soft. How sad. This camera may be severely handicapped by a mediocre sensor. It seems the size of the sensor has been adjusted to reflect the Hi Def video, to sacrifice the quality of the images. I expected more than 12 megapixels and do not understand. I had to return it.

Make no mistake, this is a very good camera … just not great. If a video is your main interest, and your image still needs the school, you will probably like it.
