I have the G1 phone from Google that I loved, but had grown tired of the physical keyboard cursor. It was still the best phone I ever owned, with the Android Market making it adaptable and continually improve.

So when I went looking for a non-Android slider, my choices are myTouch I did not like the look of the Samsung everyone hates it seems that what I read, and XT Cliq.

Once I got the phone in the shop for T-Mobile, it was love at first sight.

Although it is much smaller than the size as the G1, it feels more elegant, lighter and more high-tech. The front has a lined face, that would be a magnet for dust over time, but the back has a rubber texture that gives the phone to a very high quality prints.

Already very familiar with the Android operating system on my G1, I was able to immediately jump. Almost all my applications over from G1. Five home screen instead of three is a welcome improvement, although I do not like clutter so I only use two.

The screen is just as suitable as the G1, and seems more light on the lowest setting (the lowest needed to maintain all these smartphones are huge pigs). Not that I blur the features because I’m not on Facebook, Twitter, etc. I can not talk about what they battery. I am relieved that they are optional and not obligatory on the screen.

That is what is so great on Android: Almost all of them is 100% customizable to your tastes and needs. I’ve never touched an iPhone, and really do not want to see what Android can do after.

Key improvements :

  1. The touchpad replaces G1 Trackball has always been a bit too sensitive. This site makes navigation links a bit windy.
  2. Load the Web page appears on the XT is rowing 2G. Plus use of the multitouch and have a great discipline to zoom.
  3. The 5 MP camera with flash takes great photos, unlike the G1 had no flash.
  4. Separate headset and charging jack: The G1 and integrate them into a madness that seems to light how much time was spent at the office.
  5. Proximity Sensor . On a call of the event window (instead of blocking if the G1 does) to prevent the wrong keys. When you pull your face (to a menu of digital call for such use), he turns his back on the screen. This should be on every phone.
  6. Virtual Keyboard: The reason why I mentioned that was released from the physical keyboard. While it is loaded with Swype, I found that to be very vague with annoying pop-up screen constantly trying to guess what you typed. Instead there is an app on the market called Swype SlideIT style that works just that much better with larger keys and customizable keyboard shortcuts dictionary. It is not free (I paid about $ 8), but worth every penny, in my opinion.
  7. The chair at the front instead of behind. Now, the music sounds loud and clear. The G1, the President was on his back deafening sound, making it necessary earphones virtually any time.

In combination with the superior look of Motorola, this phone is a durable device that fits in your pocket and feels good in your hand. I really can not think of anything negative about, except the battery life (1 to 1-1/2 days if you do not constantly use it), but the G1 has a good job of it lower my expectations. People complain about the firmware has been updated (still running 1.5, 2.1 expected), but I do not know what the performance of the XT is missing, more than sufficient for my needs.
